ASSISTANT PROFESSOR IN BIOPHYSICS (Tenure Track)

The Department of Biochemistry at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center invites applications for tenure-track faculty positions at the level of assistant professor in the broadly defined area of Biophysics.  We seek candidates who study molecular mechanisms of biological processes, in vitro or in vivo, using physical and quantitative approaches.  We particularly encourage applications from those with backgrounds in single-molecule spectroscopy, quantitative imaging or cryo-electron microscopy, but are interested in all excellent candidates regardless of technical approach. Scientists within the Department of Biochemistry participate in a vibrant, interdisciplinary, interdepartmental, and highly collaborative research community within the University, and enjoy unparalleled access to state-of-the-art research cores in X-ray crystallography, macromolecular NMR spectroscopy, cellular imaging, protein chemistry and high-throughput screening.

ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF MEDICINAL CHEMISTRY LABORATORY
Assistant Professor (Nontenured Research Track)

The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center is accepting applications for an Assistant Director of the Medicinal Chemistry Laboratory.  The successful candidate will be appointed as an Assistant Professor, Nontenured Research Track.  Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in synthetic chemistry and should have 3-5 years of experience in medicinal chemistry.  The position will involve interaction with biologists, pharmacologists and chemists to improve the potency, toxicity and physical properties of small molecules.

Postdoctoral Training Positions


POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCHER

The incumbent will investigate structure and function of macromolecular protein complexes (EMBO J. 24:1763, 2005; EMBO J. 25:5983, 2006; Structure 16:1849, 2008). He/she will also work with a multi-disciplinary team including biochemists and synthetic organic chemists. The goal is to develop specific inhibitors targeting the kinases regulating these complexes as novel strategies to ameliorate cancer, obesity and Type 2 diabetes. The departmental Structural Biology Laboratory offers a Phoenix RE crystallization robot and Rigaku FR-E SuperBright X-ray source. Applicant must have recent Ph.D. with a strong background and first-author publications in X-ray crystallography.
