Brian Bethea, MD, an Assistant Professor in the UT Southwestern Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery, earned his medical degree at the University of Oklahoma and completed fellowships in general surgery and cardiothoracic surgery at Johns Hopkins University Hospital in Baltimore, MD. His research plans focus on heart failure and ventricular assist devices.
Lina Chalak, MD, is an Assistant Professor in the UT Southwestern Department of Pediatrics, Division of Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine. She earned her medical degree from the American University of Beirut followed by a fellowship in neonatology at UT Southwestern. Her research interest is in the area of hypoxic ischemic brain injury (HIE) of the newborn.
Kelly Chin, MD, is an Assistant Professor in the Pulmonary Diseases Division of UT Southwestern’s Internal Medicine Department. She earned her medical degree at UT Southwestern, followed by fellowships at UC San Diego Medical Center in San Diego, CA. She plans to research the association of stimulant use with pulmonary arterial hypertension.
Paul Croarkin, DO, is an Assistant Professor in the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Division of the UT Southwestern Department of Psychiatry. He earned his degree at the University of North Texas HSC, Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine in Fort Worth, TX. His research plans focus on pediatric mood disorders and transcranial magnetic stimulation. In 2008, Dr. Croarkin received an NARSAD Young Investigator Award for his Cortical Excitability and Inhibition in Children and Adolescents with Major Depressive Disorder research project.
Ellen Grishman, MD, is an Assistant Professor in the UT Southwestern Department of Pediatrics, Division of Endocrinology. She earned her medical degree at the Creighton University School of Medicine in Omaha, NE, followed by a fellowship in pediatric endocrinology at UT Southwestern. In her research, she plans to clearly define the pathogenesis of diabetes in order to address the underlying causes of the disease.
Takashi Komabayashi, DDS, PhD, is an Assistant Professor at the Texas A&M HSC Baylor College of Dentistry. He earned his degree at Hiroshima University and at the University of California, San Francisco. He also has a PhD from the Dental Research Division of Tokyo Medical and Dental University. He plans to research the application of peptide-amphiphile hydrogel scaffolds and dental stem cells for new endodontic treatment focused on tissue/material interface.
John Mansour, MD, is an Assistant Professor in the Oncology Division of the UT Southwestern Department of Surgery. He earned his degree at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, OH followed by a fellowship at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York, NY. His research interests focus on the role of pharmacogenomics in defining individualized cancer care strategies for patients with gastrointestinal cancer.
Shawn McClintock, PhD, is an Assistant Professor in the Education Division of the UT Southwestern Department of Psychiatry. He earned his degree at UT Southwestern. His research interests include the treatment of severe mood disorders with neurostimulation therapies. Dr. McClintock received a Summer 2008 NCTCTSI Pilot Award for a pilot study titled Translational Research Evaluating Neurocognitive Measures (TREC-M), and a 2008 NARSAD Young Investigator Award for his Neuropsychological Associated Effects of Magnetic Seizure Therapy (MST) study.
Elesyia Outlaw, MD, is an Assistant Professor in the UT Southwestern Department of Radiation Oncology. Her degree was earned at the Saint Louis University School of Medicine in St. Louis, MO. Dr. Outlaw plans to research intrafractional cervical motion during radiation therapy in order to develop stereotactic techniques in the treatment of cervical cancer.
Matthew Stoll, MD, PhD, is an Assistant Professor in the Rheumatology Division of the UT Southwestern Department of Pediatrics. He earned his degrees at SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, NY and completed a fellowship at Children’s Hospital in Boston, MA. His research interests include early-onset juvenile idiopathic arthritis, and subgroups of juvenile psoriatic arthritis. Dr. Stoll received a Summer 2008 NCTCTSI Pilot Award for a pilot study titled Subgroups of Juvenile Psoriatic Arthritis: A Clinical and Gene Expression Analysis
