Biomedical informatics is a relatively new discipline where state-of-the-art bioinformatics and computational biology research help analyze, model, and understand complex biological systems.

The goal of the Division of Biomedical Informatics, a part of the Department of Clinical Sciences, is to address the data management and data analysis needs of the already strong basic research and clinical research programs here at UT Southwestern, and to facilitate their integration in support of translational research. An additional goal is to help educate future generations of translational scientists, who will need to be comfortable with statistics, information sciences and computer sciences in addition to biology and medicine.

The development an effective infrastructure that can support current and future needs of the basic and clinical research communities is necessary to facilitate the translational interface between the two. Working closely with the recently created Academic Information Systems (AIS), a new division of Information Resources, the DBI is jointly developing a Clinical Research Data Warehouse, implementing Velos eResearch for clinical trials management, and will be introducing a subject recruitment feasibility application.

For a listing of faculty and staff, please see the Division Directory page.
