On a nice summer day when you’re stuck in the office, it’s easy to feel that your job is hazardous to your health — or at least to your overall well-being. This week on Health Watch, we’ll talk about ways your work life can affect your health and what you can do to make things better.
One big workplace woe is stress. Dr. Stephanie Setliff, a psychiatrist at UT Southwestern Medical Center, defines stress as the internal and external pressures we experience daily. Because you usually can’t eliminate stress, all you can do is learn to manage it. Dealing with stress involves finding a balance between work and other aspects of your life and learning to let go of things you can’t control. Other things that may help reduce workplace stress include practicing better time management and being ready to take action and make quick decisions.
