Health Watch is a Public Service of the Office of News and Publications  and is intended to provide general information only and should not replace the advice of a medical professional. You should contact your physician if you have questions about any of these topics.

Do you constantly struggle to lose weight, but without much success? You might need some expert help. This week on Health Watch, we’ll talk about registered dietitians and what they can do for you.

A registered dietitian is a health professional who has at least a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college with approved course work, along with additional training and educational requirements. Bernadette Latson, a registered dietitian at UT Southwestern Medical Center, says people in her profession  can provide valuable, personalized information on nutrition that’s tailored for what each person wants and needs to do accomplish. This kind of advice is especially important in light of the epidemic of obesity in the United States that has put more and more people at increased risk for heart disease, diabetes and other health problems.

Next: Diet failure.
