Health Watch is a Public Service of the Office of News and Publications and is intended to provide general information only and should not replace the advice of a medical professional. You should contact your physician if you have questions about any of these topics.

This week on Health Watch, we've been talking about how to get younger-looking skin. You don't need to spend a lot of money at a department store cosmetics counter to get effective skin-care products. You just need to get products with the right ingredients. Previously, we talked about three products you might need: sunscreen, a retinoid and a hydroxy acid.

One other product that may help is an antioxidant, like vitamins C or E. These can help slow aging. You can get antioxidants in skin-care products and through your diet.

Dr. Sarah Weitzul, an expert on cosmetic dermatology at UT Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas, says the best place to go for advice on skin-care products is a board-certified dermatologist, not the cosmetics counter. The most effective products may not be the most expensive.
