Modern life is stressful, with work and family demands to juggle and with the technology that was supposed to make life easier, instead, making us feel like we need to do more. This week on Healthwatch, we'll talk about stress and how it can affect your health.
Doctors at UT Southwestern Medical Center say it's unrealistic to try to eliminate stress from your life. Instead, you need to learn to manage it. If you don't manage stress, it could lead to depression, high blood pressure, headaches and other physical symptoms.
Dr. Stephanie Setliff, a UT Southwestern psychiatrist, says it's important to identify the things in your life that you can't control and learn to let those things go. She suggests stress-reduction strategies like yoga, exercising, reading or talking to a friend.
