This week on Healthwatch, we're talking about ways to recover from the holidays and get the new year off to a good start. Children need to get used to their school schedules again and so do adults.
Adults are just as likely to feel a bit of a let-down when the parties are over, the relatives are gone, the gifts are unwrapped and put away.
Psychiatrists at UT Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas have some suggestions for beating the post-holiday blues. If the holidays weren't what you expected, don't dwell on what went wrong or didn't measure up to your image of perfection. Do something nice for yourself and take some time to relax. Or, try exercising - it really does make people feel better. Also, be realistic if you're making new year's resolutions. Set goals you can really achieve rather than ones you just wish to achieve. Setting too high a standard can lead to severe disappointment if you don't accomplish it. If you're still blue after trying that, talk to a doctor or counselor.
