Health Watch is a Public Service of the Office of News and Publications and is intended to provide general information only and should not replace the advice of a medical professional. You should contact your physician if you have questions about any of these topics.

As we count down to New Year, it's time to consider your resolutions. If you're like a lot of people, you resolve every year to exercise more. There are a number of reasons to exercise. Exercise can help you lose weight, look better and feel better.

Doctors at UT Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas say there's another reason to exercise. Regular exercise may help lower your risk for breast cancer. Doctors believe exercise works by lowering body weight, which reduces the amount of fatty tissue in the body. Fatty tissue produces hormones and growth factors that may promote tumor growth.

So, that should give you more motivation to make an exercise resolution and stick to it. You're not only improving your body. You could also be helping save your life.

Next on Healthwatch: the excuses that keep you from exercising.
