IPL™ Photo rejuvenation is a non-invasive skin health and restoration treatment that erases the damage inflicted to your skin from sun, aging and biological factors. The patented non-laser technology supplies a broad spectrum of light which reaches deep down within the skin, targeting pigment and vascular imperfections.

IPL™ Photo rejuvenation is a breakthrough in rejuvenation techniques. It corrects a variety of skin conditions while offering a safe, non-invasive solution that can be tailored to your individual condition and skin type. The IPL™ is unique because it can treat the imperfections on the face as well as the neck, chest and hands rather than addressing a single isolated area.

IPL™ Photo rejuvenation is recognized for a very high measure of patient satisfaction, especially from skin pigmentation and other conditions such as redness due to blood vessels or rosacea. Patients have also reported improvement in the texture of their skin and reduced pore size. With a series of treatments, IPL™ Photo rejuvenation can help restore your skin to a more youthful appearance without the downtime or prolonged recovery as seen with other types of treatments. For more information, please view the "Frequently Asked Questions" link provided.

Why do I need a consultation?

A consultation is necessary prior to scheduling your IPL™ Photo rejuvenation treatment. The consultation allows Dr. Rohrich to determine your skin type, the appropriate laser necessary for your treatment, and if this would be the best treatment for your particular skin condition. You may find, during your consultation, that other treatments available in the clinic may benefit your skin condition better. Some treatments may also require a skin care regimen before beginning your treatment.

How is the treatment performed?

Your IPL™ Photo Rejuvenation will be performed at The Aston Center on the campus of UT Southwestern Medical Center.

You will need to discontinue use of retinal products and alpha or beta hydroxy acids at least 7 days prior to treatment.

A topical anesthetic cream is used to numb the areas of treatment and is applied 30 minutes to an hour before the procedure. After removing the anesthetic cream, an eye piece is placed over the eyes to protect them from the light. A cold gel is then applied to the area(s) being treated and the smooth surface of the IPL™ hand piece is gently applied to your skin. The pulses of light produce a slight sting and the treatment lasts 15 to 20 minutes.

After a series of treatments, you can see a significant reduction of unwanted pigmentation and the appearance of a smoother, revitalized skin. The IPL™ Photo rejuvenation minimizes red and brown spots while evening out skin color and texture.

How many treatments are required?

Depending on the number of conditions you want treated and the severity of the skin condition, a series of 5 to 6 treatment sessions are recommended. The procedure is non-invasive and you can return to work the same day and resume all your regular activities. By dividing the full program into several treatments, the procedure provides gradual improvement with very low risk.

After your initial series of treatments, it is possible to require a follow-up treatment in two or more years. Patients with redness from any skin condition may require maintenance treatments 1 to 3 times per year. We will educate you in ways of caring for your skin to help diminish the likelihood of future treatments.

What is the Recovery Like?

Recovery with the IPL™ Photo rejuvenation is minimal. Your face may be red for a few hours after the procedure but this will subside. Pigmented areas on your skin may actually become darker initially. These spots are the pigment in your skin that is being brought to the surface and will disappear in the next few days.

You will need to avoid the sun as much as possible. In the early weeks and months following the treatment, your skin will be very susceptible to sun damage. If at all possible, avoid prolonged exposure to the sun. If you must be in the sun for a short time, use sunscreen and wear a hat.

How does IPL™ Photo rejuvenation differ from laser resurfacing?

Laser resurfacing reduces fine lines and pigmentation but it does not effect or remove blood vessels or flushing. In fact, in some cases it can worsen this condition. Laser resurfacing may require a downtime of at least two weeks and sometimes up to a few months. One advantage of the IPL™ Photo rejuvenation is that there is no downtime. The IPL™ emits light over many wavelengths penetrating the skin non-invasively to all the levels of the skin, where abnormal, easily dilated vessels can be found. Lasers produce only a single wavelength of light therefore only have one specific target.

How much does the procedure cost?

IPL™ Photo rejuvenation involves the use of sophisticated expensive equipment in order to deliver precise and effective energy pulses. During your initial consultation the areas to be treated will be determined and a fee quote per treatment session will be given to you. This fee involves the cost of the procedure, topical anesthetic, postoperative visits and an invitation for a free skin care care consultation with our aesthetician. Please call (214) 648-8495 to schedule an appointment.
