The Department of Radiation Oncology at UT Southwestern Medical Center received ACGME approval to establish a residency training program in 2005. We participate in ERAS and the National Resident Matching Program. We currently have six residents, and will begin reviewing applications for PGY-2 for 2011 (the March 2010 Match) in the fall of 2009. Please click here - Application Process - for more information about our application process and FAQs about our program.
UT Southwestern Medical Center has a long history and commitment to resident training with over 73 accredited residency and fellowship programs currently in existence. The institution has affiliation agreements with the teaching hospitals of Parkland Memorial Hospital, Zale Lipshy University Hospital, St. Paul University Hospital, and Children's Medical Center of Dallas. In 2003, the 30,000 square foot W. A. Monty and Tex Moncrief Radiation Oncology Building opened to provide radiation oncology services for all UT Southwestern medical facilities. The majority of clinical rotations offered in the residency will be based at this site. Electives are available at other sites in Dallas, or may be taken at institutions elsewhere.
Today, the clinical faculty of 10 physicians and 11 physicists at UT Southwestern's Moncrief Radiation Oncology Center treat between 100 and 140 patients per day on four linear accelerators with IMRT and image-guided radiation therapy capabilities. The facility also has two treatment planning CT scanners, a dedicated HDR suite, 10 exam rooms, and excellent clinical and academic support services and space. The Annette Simmons Stereotactic Treatment Center on the south campus houses the department's Gamma Knife and Cyberknife for cranial and extracranial stereotactic radiosurgery.
Moncrief is connected to the Seay Biomedical Building, which holds UT Southwestern's Center for Breast Care and the Harold C. Simmons Comprehensive Cancer Center, a combined modality clinic which brings together oncologists from a variety of specialties. The Seay Biomedical Building also houses the Division of Molecular Radiation Oncology, home to our faculty involved in basic cancer and translational research. We also have a departmental clinical research office which supports more than 30 current clinical trials for a number of disease sites.
