WELCOME TO THE CHEMICAL SURPLUS WEBPAGE
Background:
EH&S has been collecting chemicals deemed orphaned and/or no longer needed by Laboratories. Some of these chemicals are still in good condition, usable, and safe. These chemicals would be sent out as waste which is both an immense cost for UT Southwestern and at the same time is not in tune with UT Southwestern’s mission to become GREEN. To minimize our environmental impact and to assure our funding agencies that we are both compliant and fiscally responsible, the Chemical Surplus Room was established.
What is stocked in the Surplus Room:
Any NFPA category 1-2 chemical collected from laboratories will be made available through the surplus room. Acids, Bases, flammable liquids, and solvents will be available depending on storage space. Strong oxidizers, peroxide formers, water reactives, pyrophorics, nitrated compounds or highly toxic chemicals WILL NOT be available through the surplus room.
Access to the Chemical Surplus Room: NB1.314
The Chemical Surplus Room will be open from 10:00a.m. until 11:00a.m. every non-holiday Wednesday, except for the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, and any Wednesday before Christmas or New Year's Day. Users must complete a Chemical Release Form to be able to remove any chemical from the Surplus Room. This form requires the signature of the faculty member who will assume custody of all chemicals listed in the Chemical Release Form.
