Purpose of MAPS:
The purpose of the Minority Association of Pre-Health Students (MAPS) is to provide under-represented pre-health students with knowledge, skills and experiences that are both prerequisite and concomitant to professional participation in the health care industry. Through the development and augmentation of regional associate chapter programming, it shall strive to enhance recruitment of under-represented students into health care; enrich the academic and professional development of these students; and produce competitive candidates for professional health related programs. This affiliation endeavors to increase the matriculation of these undergraduate members into such programs, with emphasis on medicine, nursing, dentistry and pharmacy.
With the guidance of medical students through the vehicle of SNMA Chartered Chapters, undergraduate members shall have 1) opportunities for interaction with medical school faculty and administrators; 2) receive bottom line information on the medical school admission process and curriculum; and 3) be informed about available resources, summer programs and mentors. This Association shall also provide a means to address the concerns of its membership and those involved in MAPS development.

MAPS Registration:
Forming an Associate Chapter is easy. Just visit the MAPS section of the SNMA website for all the details. However, achieving and maintaining the goals of the association is where the work and dedication lies.
In addition to returning the form, the President and Vice-President of the Undergraduate Chapter MUST become associate members of SNMA in order for the MAPS-Chapter to be officially recognized. Membership is necessary for individual undergraduates to receive information from the National Office, and it is highly recommended for all members. At no time will materials be sent to non-members.
Neither this MAPS-Association or its By-Laws are intended to replace existing campus organizations and their by-laws. Rather, our aim is to provide supplemental programming to enhance the knowledge and increase the opportunities of pre-health membership. The names of undergraduate pre-health clubs and their constitutions need not be changed to attain affiliation.
We welcome you into this necessary challenge to establish a SNMA-MAPS Chapter. We are confident that we will succeed in our goal of building a national association that is effective at addressing the needs of minority pre-health students.
