| UT Southwestern Medical Center’s world-renowned physicians are driven by the challenge to cure cancer, while improving the lives of our patients. Each of our neuro-oncologists is on the faculty of UT Southwestern and serves in a teaching role. In many cases, our academic physicians are also laboratory and clinical scientists who direct cancer research efforts. As a patient, you will benefit from our research findings, which our physicians draw upon to improve existing treatments and to develop and deliver new, more effective ones. Compassion, dedication and skill based on ground-breaking research all set the high standards of care that you can expect from UT Southwestern.
Our neuro-oncologists work together with a multidisciplinary team of physicians to focus on your individual condition, and offer you a comprehensive diagnosis and treatment plan. Each member of this multidisciplinary team has developed expertise in one or more areas of specialization, and our faculty members are dedicated to the various subspecialties. Physicians from these various treating services meet formally once a week to discuss each patient in their care. This ensures that your care, focusing on your individual diagnosis, treatment and healing, is planned with the best clinical and scientific expertise available.
Put simply, the neurological surgeon will perform a biopsy or remove the tumor, the radiation oncologist will provide stereotactic or conventional radiation treatment, and the neuro-oncologist will plan and deliver the chemotherapy if needed. UT Southwestern’s physicians and support staff will then assist you with educational and social services, as they discuss possible follow-up treatment. You will be continually guided on your path to healing, improved quality of life and better health.
