UT Southwestern’s physicians have evaluated and treated thousands of patients with debilitating movement disorders, and our department of neurosurgery is widely recognized for its expertise in brain-stimulator implantation and other advanced surgical procedures for the treatment of Parkinson’s Disease. Our specialists can recommend a variety of treatments that help our patients reduce their symptoms and avoid related complications, such as the development of arthritis, which can often accompany movement disorders.

Our physicians are widely recognized as leaders in their areas of specialization, and our research and its application in the treatment of movement disorders is a priority at UT Southwestern.

Our research continually uncovers new relationships between drugs used to treat Parkinson’s Disease and patient outcomes, enabling UT Southwestern to provide some of the most up-to-date and effective treatments available. For example, UT Southwestern researchers have helped uncover interactions between an unusual form of nerve growth and related nerve receptors, which could lead to new treatments for Parkinson’s Disease by slowing down the loss of neurons that contribute to the disease.
