Pediatric Emergency Medicine Fellowship Research Curriculum
Each fellow is allotted 10-12 blocks of dedicated research time through the three years of their fellowship. These months are strategically placed to enhance the development and implementation of each fellow’s research interest. The blocks will be arranged sequentially during the final two years when possible.
In the first year, the fellow is expected to develop a research question during the first 6 months with an appropriate mentor. The remainder of the first year should be used enhancing and researching that research question.
In the beginning of the second year, research months are in sequence to aid the fellow in completion of an IRB application and initiation of the specific research project.
In the final year of fellowship, sequential months are in the beginning to middle of the year for completion of the project, data analysis, and publication preparation.
A Pediatric Emergency Medicine Divisional Research Conference is held monthly during which updates of current research initiatives are given by both faculty and fellows. In addition, during this conference future research initiatives are discussed including feasibility, experimental design, and implementation. This meeting is conducted under the direction of the Chief of Pediatric Emergency Medicine and the Director of Research for the Division of Pediatric Emergency Medicine.
