Welcome to our recently updated ITP Website of the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders (CCBD) at Children's Medical Center Dallas (Children's). The CCBD is the hematology-oncology program at Dallas’ premier teaching hospital affiliated with The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas (UT Southwestern). All of the full-time faculty in pediatric hematology-oncology at UT Southwestern practice in the CCBD at Children’s.
One of the blood disorders that we frequently encounter in children is Immune (or Idiopathic) Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP). Although this condition is relatively common, its diagnosis and treatment have been highly controversial. A major aim of our program is to better understand how best to assess and manage children with ITP. Achieving this objective ultimately requires development of clinical research networks so that appropriate clinical trials and basic research involving ITP can be carried out. The purpose of this web site is to share with interested physicians, parents of children with ITP, and others our approach in Dallas to the diagnosis and management of ITP and to provide you with some of the patient education materials and clinical research accomplishments of our program. We also wish to emphasize our clinical and scientific collaborations and offer links to other useful web sites relevant to ITP.
We welcome you to our web page and would appreciate receiving your comments and suggestions about how we might improve it. You may send email to Dr. George Buchanan.
