Faculty members within the Division of General Pediatrics provide the leadership role in the Pediatric Education of Medical Students at UT Southwestern. Also, all of the faculty members within the division participate in this process. The core education in Pediatrics occurs in the third year of medical school in the form of the Pediatric Clerkship. During the eight (8) week rotation, students spend four (4) weeks on inpatient at Children's Medical Center Dallas broken down in two (2) weeks on general pediatric service and two (2) weeks on a subspecialty service. The students spend the other four (4) weeks on outpatient, which consists of one (1) week in the Newborn Nursery at Parkland, one (1) week in a private practitioner's office, and two (2) weeks in ambulatory pediatrics. For additional information, please refer to the Department of Pediatrics Medical Student Education Page.
The members of the General Pediatric division are also involved in the other three (3) years of medical student education, including participation in the first year course Clinical Ethics in Medicine, the second year course Clinical Medicine, and the fourth year selective Law, Literature and Medicine.
