October 15, 2015 – Andy Geisse, former CEO of AT&T Business Solutions, accepts nomination to direct new KCP Advisory Committee.

October 2, 2015 – Dr. Brugarolas is informed by the NIH that the UT Southwestern Specialized Program of Research Excellence (SPORE) application in Kidney Cancer received a score of 14 putting it in the high-impact, exceptional category, the highest possible scoring category. Notification of awards will be made in spring of 2016.

September, 2015 – Dr. Carlos Bagley, Director of the Spine Center at Duke University Medical Center, joins the UT Southwestern faculty to direct the Neurological Surgery Spine Program and serve as Vice Chair of the Department of Neurosurgery.

November 17, 2014 – In collaboration with Genentech, Inc. Drs. Payal Kapur and James Brugarolas report the first integrative genomic analysis of non-clear cell renal cancer types including papillary, chromophobe and translocation carcinomas. Press Release • Abstract

October 18, 2014 – Jeffrey Cadeddu, M.D., publishes the first article to propose a modification of the RENAL scoring system to better define outcomes of kidney ablation based on anatomic location and size. Abstract

October 2014 – Ivan Pedrosa, M.D., is selected as one of 11 members of the Disease Focused Panel on Kidney Cancer by the Society of Abdominal Radiology (SAR) to advance the radiologic contributions to the diagnosis and management of both localized and advanced renal cell carcinoma.

September 22, 2014 – UT Southwestern investigators submit a Specialized Program of Research Excellence (SPORE) grant application in kidney cancer to the National Cancer Institute (NCI). They are one of three institutions along with the Harvard Cancer Center and Memorial Sloan Kettering to be approved by NCI to submit such an application.

September 5, 2014 – Drs. Dinesh Rakheja, Joshua Mendell, and James Amatruda discover that the DROSHA gene, encoding a protein that regulates miRNA biogenesis, is implicated in Wilms tumor development. They propose that aberrant miRNA biogenesis defines a new subtype of Wilms. Press Release • Abstract

March 28, 2014 – Jeffrey Cadeddu, M.D., publishes a manuscript with the longest follow-up after laparoscopic ablation of renal tumors in the literature defining efficacy of ablative therapy in appropriately selected patients. Abstract

March 10, 2014 – UT Southwestern enters into the International Metastatic RCC Database Consortium.

January 1, 2014 - Vitaly Margulis, M.D., opens an active surveillance study to determine the optimal management of small renal masses.

July 5, 2013 - Raquibul Hannan, M.D., opens the iSABR trial to assess whether tumor cell killing with stereotactic radiation therapy facilitates tumor recognition by the immune system and improves outcomes from treatment with high-dose IL2.
