Potential participants are approached at community events (e.g. Health Fairs), currently enrolled in research projects with Simmons Cancer Center and BSPan(Breast Screening and Patient navigation) program (iRB # 042010-081) and asked if they would like to fill out a health topic survey and indicate whether they are open to future contact. Potential participants who are referred to the Health Topic Survey will have the opportunity of completing the survey. The Health Topic Survey will not ask for any PHi unless the participant indicates, in response to one of the survey items, that he or she would like to be contacted in the future for research studies. The person would indicate this by providing name, address, phone number and email address.
Data will be collected in writing, through a paper-and-pencil survey, transported to the research office in a locked case, and entered into a secured database. as studies become available, people who indicate agreement to be invited will be contacted and asked if they are willing to participate in research studies (e.g., interviews/surveys). They will not be obligated in any way to participate in any study. They can accept or decline to participate in any research project for which they are contacted.

Participant Eligibility

Persons aged 18 and over who live in the Dallas-Fort Worth area and attend one of the community events or are referred to our registry will be eligible to complete the Health Topic Survey and indicate whether they are open to future contact. Adults will also be able invited via referral and complete the survey online or come in and complete it on paper. We are particularly interested in underserved populations such as Hispanics and African Americans, as these groups have historically not been well represented in studies.
