HIV Disease Database
Subjects will be recruited from the PHHS Amelia Court Clinic and from other clinics and the Dallas community. We expect to enroll 250 pts per year. Those who choose to participate in this database will complete a brief (two-page) survey tool and will be contacted in the future if a study that pertains to their condition is available. The data collected will include: contact information (name, address, phone number), demographic information (date of birth, gender, ethnicity), HIV risk information (sexual orientation, IV drug use, other exposure), height, weight, insurance information, HIV disease status, laboratory tests, and history of HIV-related (opportunistic) diseases. In addition, the survey will request information on alcohol use, smoking history and substance abuse (cocaine, heroine, crystal methamphetamine, etc.). This information is necessary since these activities may determine the subject’s inclusion or exclusion status for future protocols. Additionally, these substances are known to interact with HIV medications.
Patients may be of any gender, and 18 years of age and older. Non-English speaking patients will be included. Patients may have HIV or be at risk for contracting HIV. Any comorbid condition is acceptable for inclusion in this database.
