Summary

We propose to examine whether vilazodone attenuates the effects of corticosteroids on the human hippocampus in 18 healthy controls who will receive hydrocortisone alone and following pretreatment with vilazodone in a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled pilot study using a within-subject, crossover design. Patients will be enrolled for 61 days, with cycle 1 running until day 19, a washout period until day 43, and cycle 2 running until day 61. Primary outcome measures will be the performance T score on the Rey auditory Verbal Learning Test (RaVLT).

Participant Eligibility

- Healthy men and women age 18-50 years
- Education of >= 12 years and baseline RAVLT total words recalled score >= 35 (normal baseline
memory)
- BMI between 18.5-30 (not underweight or obese)
