Summary

Patients presenting to UT Southwestern Outpatient Physical Therapy Clinic with complaint of low back pain will be screened by the treating physical therapist to determine if the patient meets the inclusion/exclusion criteria for the study. If patients meet the study criteria, they will be provided with study consent forms and HIPAA privacy forms to participate in the study.

Once consent to participate is obtained, subjects will undergo a standard physical therapy evaluation in which the examiner will classify the patient into either Flexion/Flexion-rotation or Extension/Extension-rotation directional susceptiblity to movement (DSM). Within one week of the initial examination, a different examiner will measure peripheral impairments of posture, hip range of motion and spinal range of motion. At that time, the subjects participation in the study will be concluded.

Participant Eligibility

1. Chief complaint of low back or leg pain of lumbosacral spine origin.
2. Between the ages of 18-75 years old.
3. Can be classified into flexion/flexion-rotation or extension/extension-rotation DSM.
