Benjamin Greenberg, M.D.
This is a non-randomized longitudinal case control study including up to 300 subjects. Patients receiving care at Children's Medical Center Pediatric Demyelinating Disease Clinic, or inpatient children who are suspected of demyelinating disease, will be offered the opportunity to participate in this study. Control subjects will include patients with other neurologic diseases as well as normal healthy controls. We will review the subject's medical records as well as perform a standard clinical examination. Participants will be asked to take part in a variety of other tests (although not all tests will be performed on every subject). These tests include disability measures, visual tests and neuropsychological tests. in addition, subjects will be asked to complete questionnaires to assess behavior, mood, quality of life and medication adherence. Subjects also have the option to donate biological samples to a repository for future use.
Participants must be less than 21 years of age at the time of enrollment. Subjects will have an established diagnosis of a CNS demyelinating disease such as MS, CIS, NMO, ADEM, TM or ON. However, we will also enroll control subjects with a diagnosis of other neurologic diseases as well as normal healthy controls.
