Summary

We propose to evaluate the cardiovascular system of patients with familial hypercholesterolemia through the use of CMR and tonometry. We will recruit patients with HCRFs to undergo a research CMR without the use of sedation or contrast agent. Measures of vascular health, such as PWV, TaC, aoD, aortic wall thickness and volume, number of atheromas, myocardial fibrosis, and ventricular function will be obtained. These values will then be compared to published normals, where they exist, or to measurements from age-, gender-, and BMi-matched control patients recruited for the study. We believe that measuring vascular health in children with HCRFs and in control subjects will allow for a greater understanding of the natural history of these patients, as well as lead to future studies that may allow for easier assessment of the efficacy of potential treatments.

Participant Eligibility

Inclusion criteria for patients with HCRFs include patients diagnosed with:

* Obesity

* Hypertension

* Hyperlipidemia/hypercholesterolemia (either essential or familial)

* Neurofibromatosis type 1

* Diabetes type 1 or 2

* Age >= 6 years old

* Developmentally able to lay still for about an hour
Inclusion criteria for healthy volunteers include:

* Age >= 6 years old

* Have no known medical diagnoses

* Developmentally able to lay still for about an hour
