Dr. Bruce A. Meyer named Executive VP for Health System Affairs

  

DALLAS – April 5, 2010 – Bruce A. Meyer, M.D., M.B.A, vice president for medical affairs at UT Southwestern Medical Center, has been named executive vice president for health system affairs, effective today.

In this capacity, he will be responsible for overseeing the entire UT Southwestern clinical enterprise, and his appointment culminates an extensive national search carried out by a committee of senior UT Southwestern leaders.

“As executive vice president for health system affairs, Dr. Meyer will play a key leadership role in our clinical transformation agenda,” said Dr. Daniel K. Podolsky, president of
UT Southwestern. “Dr. Meyer brings an important dual perspective of internal knowledge and external experience to this new position.”

Dr. Meyer has been at UT Southwestern since 2007, and he previously served as president of UMass Memorial Medical Group and chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at UMass Memorial Health Center. Prior to his six years at UMass, he served for seven years at Stony Brook University Medical Center, as a faculty member and physician leader.

He attended the University of Texas at Austin as an undergraduate, and he received his M.D. from UT Health Science Center at San Antonio and his M.B.A. from the University of Tennessee.  He trained at Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston, a part of the University of Texas System.
