DALLAS — Sept. 23, 2009 — UT Southwestern Medical Center’s top physicians will explain the latest developments in the critical fields of cancer, cardiology, ophthalmology, plastic surgery, urology and spine care during KRLD’s fifth annual “Breakthroughs in Medicine” on Saturday, Oct. 3.
UT Southwestern, one of the country’s leading academic medical centers, will sponsor the free public event, being held from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Hilton Dallas Lincoln Centre, 5410 LBJ Freeway. While there is no charge for admission, advanced registration is preferred at www.krld.com or by calling 214-525-7000. Self-parking is $3 and valet parking is $8.
“We encourage people to come out and find out about the latest diagnostic tools, treatments and options for their health care and take advantage of the numerous free screenings available,” said Dr. Bruce Meyer, vice president for medical affairs and associate dean for health system affairs at UT Southwestern. “‘Breakthroughs in Medicine’ offers unique access to many of UT Southwestern’s world-renowned physicians and surgeons on some of the most critical and in-demand medical topics of the day.”
Seasonal flu shots will be available at the event, as well as screenings for blood pressure, body composition, cholesterol and glucose levels, as well as breast cancer and stroke-risk assessments. A complimentary breakfast and a three-course lunch will be served.
Dr. John T. Carlo, medical director of Dallas County Health & Human Services, will deliver the keynote speech, The Truth About the Flu & How to Reduce the Risks of Getting It.
