Pediatric urologists specialize in treating children with conditions affecting the kidney, bladder, urethra and genitalia. At UT Southwestern Medical Center, all of our pediatric urology physicians are board certified in urology and have completed additional fellowship training in the pediatric urology specialty.

UT Southwestern provides a full range of services for pediatric urologic disorders, and our physicians are internationally recognized as leaders in this field of medicine. Areas of special interest that our program is best known for include:

  • Hypospadias repair
  • Single incision surgery for undescended testicles
  • Deflux injection to stop vesicoureteral reflux
  • Laparoscopic surgery to correct ureteropelvic junction obstruction, as well as for removal of all or a portion of diseased kidneys
  • Buccal mucosa grafting for vaginoplasty
  • Bladder reconstruction in children with neurogenic bladder, usually from spina bifida
  • Small groin incision repair of ectopic ureters

In addition to clinical services, our Pediatric Urology Program maintains two basic science laboratories for research into the causes of various congenital conditions. Dr. Linda Baker heads the research group, which has been funded by the federal government for transitional investigations into the causes of hypospadias and undescended testicles, two of the most common congenital abnormalities that occur in boys. Other areas of investigation include bladder development and stone disease in children.
