Researchers identify gene linked to inherited form of fatal lung disease

A lung transplant can prolong a patient's life and improve the patient’s quality of life. Lung transplantation can be an option for patients with severe end-stage, non-malignant pulmonary disease. Such diseases of the lung include emphysema, cystic fibrosis, pulmonary fibrosis and pulmonary hypertension.

UT Southwestern Medical Center is ranked No. 1 in the nation for one-year post-transplant survival of lung-transplant patients. We also offer combination heart/lung transplants.

In addition, UT Southwestern provides other pulmonary resources. The pulmonary division, with its pulmonary function laboratory, has physicians on staff with experience in managing cystic fibrosis, pulmonary hypertension, interstitial fibrosis and pulmonary neuromuscular diseases.

The state-of-the-art scientific atmosphere at UT Southwestern offers physicians an almost unparalleled opportunity to be in the forefront of traditional research to develop innovative diagnostic tests and therapeutic advances in the fields of lung transplantation.

In addition to lung transplants, pulmonary disorders treated at UT Southwestern include:
