UT Southwestern Medical Center’s rehabilitation specialists provide effective therapies to help patients with Parkinson’s disease exercise and manage their illness. UT Southwestern provides compassionate, individualized rehabilitation therapies that can help ease symptoms and slow the progression of Parkinson’s disease.

With other physicians who are specialists in Parkinson’s disease, our rehabilitation team includes nurses, neuropsychologists, psychologists and occupational, physical, recreational and speech therapists. UT Southwestern’s team approach to rehabilitation enables patients to benefit from a comprehensive program that addresses all aspects of Parkinson’s disease.

UT Southwestern also works diligently to provide family members with the information they need to contribute to the patient’s successful rehabilitation. In addition to involving family members in discussions about the goals of the rehabilitation program, medical staff extends a wide variety of services to family members as well as patients − psychological counseling, support groups and educational programs.

Regardless of mild or severe symptoms, all Parkinson’s patients can benefit from rehabilitation at UT Southwestern. Those who have been a part of our program have realized valuable benefits during their rehabilitation, including addressing all of the lifestyle changes that can contribute to an improved sense of well-being.

Our Parkinson’s exercise and rehabilitation program enables our patients to realize an increased ability to participate in activities at work, home and in the community. In addition, our vocational therapists can provide help with adjustments related to employment, including providing assistance needed for the patient to adapt to the job environment.

Rehabilitation specialists provide thorough, expert and compassionate care, which makes an important difference in their rehabilitation and outlook on the future.
