UT Southwestern Medical Center is one of the world's premier cerebrovascular medical centers, treating more aneurysm cases than any other facility in North America. Our specialists pioneered the development of some of the most advanced and effective aneurysm procedures in use today. We are also leaders in stroke rehabilitation.
In 1989, UT Southwestern researchers refined a fast-acting drug called tissue plasminogen activator, or tPA, which can rapidly dissolve blood clots in patients with ischemic stroke, greatly reducing the risk of death or severe disability. Quick medical intervention with tPA is still considered to be the most effective treatment for individuals who have had an ischemic stroke episode.
UT Southwestern’s cerebrovascular rehabilitation program provides effective therapies needed to help improve the lives of patients who have experienced a stroke or other form of cerebrovascular disease. Our physicians work in comprehensive teams that include rehabilitation nurses, physical, occupational and speech therapists as well as psychologists and neuropsychologists to enable an integrated approach to the rehabilitation process.
UT Southwestern’s comprehensive medical and rehabilitation resources enable it to provide the therapeutic treatment needed to help stroke-recovery patients function at the highest level possible.
