Virtual colonoscopies are newest tools against deadly cancer
UT Southwestern Medical Center’s Abdominal Imaging Program provides patients with comprehensive imaging and diagnostic services for disorders in the abdomen or pelvis area, including infections, tumors or masses and vascular conditions. Abnormalities in the esophagus and gastrointestinal tract can also be investigated.
Technologies such as virtual colonoscopy, CT (computed tomography) scans, plain radiography, ultrasound, fluoroscopy and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) are used to visualize the internal organs and assess their functionality. In addition, imaging guidance is utilized to perform percutaneous biopsies and other interventions such as fluid aspirations of abscess drainages within the abdomen and pelvis. These cutting-edge imaging tools allow physicians and specialists to make the most accurate diagnoses and prescribe targeted treatments and therapies.
