A number of skin conditions, such as acne scars, wrinkles and age spots, can be improved by the treatments and therapies offered at UT Southwestern Medical Center. Below are descriptions of some of the services we offer and the conditions they can help.

  • Cosmetic consultation - In this thorough consultation, patients will learn how to individualize their makeup to enhance their features. Patients are instructed in what colors and formulations work best for them. After the patient’s skin is cleansed and treated, a classic makeup application will be performed on half of the face. Then, the patient will apply the cosmetics to the other half with the assistance of the skin-care provider. Brow tweezing will be provided and day-to-evening applications and proper brush care will be explained.

  • Chemical peels - A chemical peel is a solution applied to the skin to improve the texture by removing its damaged outer layers and by stimulating the production of new skin cells. It tightens the skin and reduces wrinkling. It is also helpful for those individuals with facial blemishes, wrinkles and uneven skin pigmentation. Trichloroacetic acid and alpha and beta hydroxy acids are used for this purpose.

  • Microdermabrasion - Microdermabrasion is a gentle, gradual exfoliation of the skin's surface cells. This removal reduces damage caused by age, sun and other environmental and hereditary factors. It can minimize fine lines and wrinkles, acne scarring and even lighten age spots and can be performed on any part of the body.

  • Peri-operative skin care - Skin care becomes extremely important during cosmetic and reconstructive surgery. Our licensed skin care specialists can help provide guidance on caring for patients' skin during the peri-operative period. Both skin-care and cosmetic consultations are complimentary to all of our patients. Patients may schedule a complimentary consultation at the same time as scheduling a consultation with one of our doctors.

  • Permanent make-up and para-medical techniques - Tattooing can cosmetically improve the appearance of brows, lips and eyes. The tattooing of makeup requires specialized techniques that are often referred to as micropigmentation, micropigment implantation, or dermagraphics. The cosmetic implantation technique deposits tiny individual implants of pigment into the dermal layer of the skin. Permanent make-up can help to camouflage scars from burns, surgery, accidents or injuries. It can also help redefine facial features.

  • Skin-care consultation - At a skin-care consultation, patients can uncover the facts about what will and won’t help their skin and exactly why. After a thorough review of a patient's skin-health history and lifestyle habits, the skin is thoroughly cleansed and analyzed. The skin is viewed under a magnifying lamp and a Wood’s Lamp that allows us to observe conditions in the skin that can’t be viewed with the naked eye. Finally, a full range of product and treatment options are reviewed to assist patients in making educated decisions for the health and beauty of their skin.

  • Skin care products - We provide a thorough education to our patients on skin-care products. Based on patients' skin type and condition, as well as their lifestyle and goals, we will prescribe an individualized skin-care protocol. Through a synergistic use of prescribed products and state-of-the-art cosmetic formulations, our doctors and licensed skin care specialists can restore the function and vitality of the skin. Once the skin’s health has been restored, it will tolerate cosmetic procedures better and heal faster.

  • Spa services - Our spa treatments offer a relaxing and therapeutic enhancement to the patient's at-home skin-care regimen. They are milder than our clinical treatments but may be combined with clinical therapies to achieve both relaxation and deep stimulation of the skin-- the best of both worlds. Therapies may also be modified for those with special skin conditions such as rosacea and patients undergoing radiation and chemotherapy.

  • Waxing services - We treat all areas of the body and consult with patients on what products will keep the skin smooth and free from ingrown hairs.
