The pain management program at UT Southwestern Medical Center offers expert, compassionate care for patients experiencing chronic headaches, including cluster headaches, migraines, tension headaches and secondary headaches, in which headaches are the symptom of an underlying disorder such as sinus or hormonal conditions.
UT Southwestern is one of the few pain management centers in Texas with on-site pain specialists, behavioral medicine specialists and physical therapists. Our program uses therapies derived from the latest scientific advances in pain management and our specialists utilize the least-invasive procedures available to diagnose, locate and treat patients’ headaches.
Depending on the patient’s specific condition, our specialists may prescribe medications that halt the headache process after it has started and/or preventive medications that reduce the frequency and intensity of headaches. Medications are prescribed in a variety of forms, including injections, nasal sprays or oral tablets. In addition to medications, UT Southwestern’s specialists may also prescribe biofeedback therapy, headache education, physical therapy, stress management and relaxation techniques.
UT Southwestern’s pain management program provides help and hope to individuals whose daily lives are controlled by headaches. At UT Southwestern, our specialists understand the physical debilitation and emotional stress caused by chronic headaches.
Patients with headaches can also be treated by our dentistry and oral surgery and neurosciences services.
