Dr. Bukulmez

Orhan Bukulmez, MD, is an Associate Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Chief of the Division of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at UT Southwestern Medical Center. He is also the Medical Director of the In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) program in our University Fertility and Advanced Reproductive Medicine practice. Prior to coming to UT Southwestern, Dr. Bukulmez served as the division director of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility and the Medical Director of the IVF and Egg Donation programs at the University of Florida College of Medicine in Gainesville, Florida.

A native of Turkey, Dr. Bukulmez graduated from the medical school at Hacettepe University in Ankara as valedictorian of his class. After completing medical school and residency, he joined the faculty at Hacettepe University where he reached the rank of Associate Professor with tenure before embarking on his career in the United States. Dr. Bukulmez carried out research in reproductive medicine focusing on endometriosis and ovarian physiology at Yale University where he also completed an internship in obstetrics and gynecology.

Dr. Bukulmez completed additional residency training programs in obstetrics and gynecology at Southern Illinois University and The University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center, followed by a three-year Fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. He is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology as well as in reproductive endocrinology and infertility.

He has special interest and clinical expertise in assisted reproduction and minimally invasive surgery. His research interests include in vitro fertilization, endometriosis and genomic regulation in reproductive tissues. He has extensive experience in hysteroscopic surgery, laser and laparoscopic surgery, myomectomy and microsurgical tubal reversal.

Dr. Bukulmez is a Fellow of the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, and also holds memberships in the American Society for Reproductive Medicine, the Society for Gynecologic Investigation, the Society for Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, and the Society for Assisted Reproductive Technologies.

Dr. Beshay

Victor Beshay, MD, Assistant Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology, joined the faculty at UT Southwestern Medical Center in 2008.

Fluent in English and Arabic, Dr. Beshay was born in Alexandria, Egypt and received his GCE (General Certificate of Education) degree from the University of London, UK. Dr. Beshay has made the U.S. his permanent home since 1994.

In 2001, Dr. Beshay received his medical degree from the East Carolina University School of Medicine in Greenville, North Carolina, where his academic achievements were recognized with numerous awards and scholarships.

During his residency in obstetrics and gynecology at UT Southwestern/Parkland Memorial Hospital, Dr. Beshay continued to excel scholastically, and he received the Excellence in Medical Student Teaching Award four years in a row. Following residency, Dr. Beshay remained in Dallas, completing a three-year Fellowship in reproductive endocrinology and infertility at UT Southwestern.

Board certified in both obstetrics and gynecology and reproductive endocrinology and infertility, Dr. Beshay is a Fellow of the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and a member of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine, and the Society for Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility.

Among his research interests is the study of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) – a hormonal disorder that can affect a woman’s ability to become pregnant. He and Dr. Bruce Carr have identified a transcription factor that may lead to new options for treating this disease.

Dr. Beshay’s clinical interests include assisted reproduction, in vitro fertilization, fertility preservation, minimally invasive surgery including microsurgical tubal reversal, and fertility-sparing procedures including myomectomy.

Dr. Carr

Bruce Carr, MD, is Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Director of the Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility Fellowship Program at UT Southwestern Medical Center. He also holds the Paul C. MacDonald Distinguished Chair in Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Dr. Carr earned his medical degree from the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor and received both his residency and Fellowship training at UT Southwestern. He is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology and in reproductive endocrinology and infertility.

Dr. Carr is internationally recognized as an authority on reproductive endocrinology and has been acknowledged for his contributions to research and training of specialists in reproductive endocrinology and infertility.  He is editor-in-chief of the journal Seminars in Reproductive Medicine and co-editor of the foundational texts Essential Reproductive Medicine and the Textbook of Reproductive Medicine.  

Dr. Carr is a member of the New York Academy of Science, American Society for Reproductive Medicine, Society for Gynecologic Investigation, Society for Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, American Gynecological and Obstetrical Society, American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists, and American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.

Dr. Carr's practice focuses on diagnostic and treatment options for patients with infertility or endocrine problems, including those associated with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). His patients benefit from years of laboratory and clinical research. Among the topics he has investigated are the regulation of the expression of steroidogenic enzymes, the regulation of ovarian and adrenal androgen production, hormone therapy and menopause, endometriosis, leiomyomas, and infertility.

Dr. Halvorson

Lisa Halvorson, MD, is an Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at UT Southwestern Medical Center. She earned her medical degree at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Beth Israel Hospital in Boston.

Following her residency, Dr. Halvorson continued her training in both basic science research and clinical endocrinology. She has been a research Fellow in endocrinology in the Departments of Medicine at the Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham and Women's Hospital, both affiliates of Harvard Medical School. She pursued her clinical Fellowship in reproductive endocrinology at Tufts University School of Medicine.

Dr. Halvorson was a scholar of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Reproductive Scientist Development Program, where she investigated the regulation of gonadotropin gene expression. Her current research interests focus on the neuroendocrine control of reproduction and identifying the molecular mechanisms that trigger the onset of fertility and contribute to its cessation during menopause.

Board certified in both obstetrics and gynecology and reproductive endocrinology and infertility, Dr. Halvorson offers the full spectrum of diagnostic and treatment options for patients with reproductive endocrinologic and infertility disorders.

She is a member of several medical organizations including the American Society for Reproductive Medicine, American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, Endocrine Society, Society for Gynecologic Investigation, and Society for the Study of Reproduction.

Dr. Wilson

Ellen Wilson, MD – is an Associate Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology – joined the faculty at UT Southwestern Medical Center in 2001 after eight years in private practice in North Dallas. A board-certified reproductive endocrinologist, she received her medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine and then spent a year as a medical missionary in Zaire, Africa, before completing a residency in obstetrics and gynecology at George Washington University.

Following residency, Dr. Wilson completed two fellowships – one in reproductive endocrinology and infertility at UT Southwestern and a second in minimally invasive surgery at Woman’s Hospital in Houston, Texas.

Dr. Wilson speaks both English and French. Her primary interests include polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), infertility, menopause hormonal management, and the surgical correction of congenital abnormalities of the female reproductive tract. She is trained in minimally invasive surgical techniques including the DaVinci Robot for procedures such as hysterectomy, myomectomy, and tubal reversal.

Dr. Wilson also sees patients at the Lowe Foundation Center for Women’s Preventative Health Care and the Pediatric-Adolescent Gynecology program at Children’s Medical Center where she is the program’s medical director.

Dr. Bradshaw

Karen Bradshaw, MD
Dr. Karen Bradshaw is a professor of obstetrics and gynecology and surgery at UT Southwestern as well as interim chief of the division of reproductive endocrinology and infertility and medical director of the division's university practice. She holds the Helen J. and Robert S. and Diana K. and Richard C. Strauss Chair in Women's Health and is also the medical director of the Lowe Foundation Center for Women's Preventative Health Care.

Dr. Bradshaw earned her medical degree from UT Southwestern where she also completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology and Fellowship training in reproductive endocrinology and infertility. She joined the faculty at UT Southwestern in 1988 after practicing reproductive endocrinology at Tufts-New England Medical Center in Boston.

Board certified in obstetrics and gynecology as well as reproductive endocrinology and infertility, Dr. Bradshaw serves as an examiner for the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. She is a member of the American Society of Reproductive Medicine, American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and the Society of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility. She is a past president of the Society of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility.

Dr. Bradshaw's practice focuses on disorders of reproductive endocrinology and infertility, menopause, and women's wellness.

 

Dr. Ackerman

Gary Ackerman, MD
Dr. Gary Ackerman is a professor in the reproductive endocrinology and infertility division and medical director of the division's cryopreservation program for human spermatozoa. His practice focuses on helping couples with infertility problems. 

Dr. Ackerman earned his medical degree from the State University of New York. He completed his residency training in obstetrics and gynecology at the Maimonides Medical Center and completed Fellowship training in reproductive endocrinology and infertility at UT Southwestern Medical Center.

He is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology and belongs to several medical organizations including the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, American Society for Reproductive Medicine, and Scientific Research Society.

MacDonald Distinguished Chair in Obstetrics and Gynecology. He is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology and in reproductive endocrinology and infertility.

Dr. Carr is internationally recognized as an authority on reproductive endocrinology with hundreds of publications and lectures to his credit. He is a member of the New York Academy of Science and editor-in-chief of the journal Seminars in Reproductive Medicine. In addition, he serves as an examiner for the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology where he participates in the oral examination of physicians seeking board certification in reproductive endocrinology.

Dr. Carr is also a member of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine, Society for Gynecologic Investigation, Society for Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, American Gynecological and Obstetrical Society, American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists, and American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.

Dr. Doody

Kevin J. Doody, MD
Dr. Kevin Doody, clinical associate professor of obstetrics and gynecology at UT Southwestern, is part of the team of fertility and advanced reproductive endocrinology physicians.

Following his undergraduate studies at the University of Texas at Austin, Dr. Doody graduated from medical school at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. Subsequently, he received his subspecialty training in reproductive endocrinology and infertility at UT Southwestern Medical Center.

In 1989, Dr. Doody established The Center for Assisted Reproduction (CAR) in Bedford, Texas; however, he maintained his ties to UT Southwestern, serving as a volunteer clinical assistant professor from the time he completed Fellowship until his appointment to associate professor in 2004.

Board certified in obstetrics and gynecology and subspecialty certified in reproductive endocrinology and infertility, Dr. Doody is a recognized leader in the field of infertility, with an emphasis on assisted reproductive technologies, including in vitro fertilization. In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Doody is actively involved in research aimed at the improvement of pregnancy outcomes in infertile couples. Dr. Doody is also board certified as a high complexity laboratory director.

Dr. Doody is a member of the American Society of Reproductive Medicine, the Society for Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, the Society of Reproductive Surgeons, and the Society for Assisted Reproductive Technology, as well as the European Society for Human Reproduction and Embryology. He has been repetitively named as one of Fort Worth's Top Docs, Super Doctor (Texas Monthly), and one of the Best Doctors in America.

An innovator in the use of software to improve efficiency, he was recognized as Microsoft Physician of the Year in 2004 for the development of an electronic medical record specifically designed for the care of infertility patients. Dr. Doody brings both his technological and clinical expertise to UT Southwestern's fertility and advanced reproductive endocrinology practice.

Dr. Wilson

Ellen Wilson, MD
Dr. Ellen Wilson is an associate professor at UT Southwestern. She is a board-certified reproductive endocrinologist who earned her medical degree in 1984 at Baylor College of Medicine. She completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology in 1989 at George Washington University Hospital and Fellowship training in 1991 at UT Southwestern.

Additionally, Dr. Wilson completed a year-long Fellowship in advanced laparoscopy in 1992 through the Society of Reproductive Surgeons at Woman's Hospital in Houston. She then entered private practice in North Dallas for eight years prior to returning to UT Southwestern as a faculty member in 2001.

Dr. Wilson speaks both English and French. Her primary interests include: polycystic ovarian syndrome, infertility, menopause hormonal management and pediatric/adolescent gynecology with a focus on anatomic abnormalities.
