UT Southwestern Medical Center offers a maternal-fetal transport service for women experiencing pregnancy complications. The transport hotline for the convenience of obstetricians and provides 24-hour direct physician-to-physician contact for high-risk obstetrical cases. Physicians should call this number to arrange transportation of patients to the maternal-fetal medicine specialists at UT Southwestern University Hospital - St. Paul. For non-urgent, non-emergency problems, please call 214-645-3837.

The maternal-fetal medicine team offers an extensive array of diagnostic, consultative, and treatment options for both mother and child, including: 

  • physician consultation in pregnancy planning and management of high-risk patient
  • state-of-the-art high-resolution ultrasound
  • amniocentesis
  • percutaneous umbilical blood sampling
  • chorionic villus sampling
  • identification and treatment of perinatal infections
  • clinical teratology evaluations and counseling
  • fetal therapeutics including fetal blood sampling, intrauterine transfusions, and fetal
    shunt placement
  • genetic counseling by a highly skilled team consisting of genetic counselors and
    maternal-fetal medicine specialists
  • coordination of maternal-child treatment and care for congenital anomalies and other perinatal problems with a team of neonatologists and pediatric surgeons at UT Southwestern and Children’s Medical Center Dallas

UT Southwestern maternal-fetal medicine patients also have access to the level III Neonatal Intensive Care Nursery at UT Southwestern University Hospital - St. Paul as well as the level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Children's Medical Center Dallas for infants requiring surgery after birth.
