Lowe Foundation Center for Women’s Preventative Health Care
The Lowe Foundation Center for Women’s Preventative Health Care is an endowed center and model for the advancement of care for peri- and postmenopausal women. The Center’s multi-disciplinary physician team includes specialists in gynecology, reproductive endocrinology, minimally invasive and robotic surgery and vulvar health.
Karen Bradshaw, MD, is Medical Director of the Lowe Foundation Center for Women's Preventative Health Care. She received her medical degree and completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at UT Southwestern Medical Center and then went on to train as a fellow in reproductive endocrinology and infertility here. She joined the faculty at UT Southwestern in 1988 after practicing reproductive endocrinology at Tufts-New England Medical Center in Boston.
Dr. Bradshaw holds the Helen J. and Robert S. and Diana K. and Richard C. Strauss Chair in Women’s Health and is a Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Professor of Surgery at UT Southwestern.
Board certified in obstetrics and gynecology as well as reproductive endocrinology and infertility, Dr. Bradshaw’s practice focuses on well-woman and preventative health care of the 40+ year-old woman. She treats disorders affecting the mature woman including menopausal symptoms, post-menopausal bleeding, hormone replacement therapy, mood disorders, and preventative treatment for bone loss.
Dr. Bradshaw is a member of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine and a member and past president of the Society for Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility. A Fellow of the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, she has written and lectured widely on the subjects of preventative women’s health care and minimally invasive surgery for women.
H. David Cook, MD, Associate Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at UT Southwestern Medical Center, is committed to helping women achieve a quality life. He provides women of all ages with comprehensive gynecological care and access to a network of specialists at UT Southwestern.
After practicing in Dallas for 25 years, Dr. Cook joined the UT Southwestern faculty in the summer of 2004. A Texas native, he received his bachelor's degree from Texas Tech University and was awarded his medical degree by UT Southwestern Medical School in 1974. Following a residency in obstetrics and gynecology at University Hospital–St Paul, Dr. Cook joined a group private practice there.
Dr. Cook is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology and is a Fellow of the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. He is past president of the Southwestern Gynecologic Assembly and is a member of the Dallas County Medical Society, Texas Medical Association, and Texas Association of Obstetricians and Gynecologists as well as the South Central Obstetrical and Gynecological Society.
Dr. Cook's practice focuses on providing preventative health care to women of all ages. He, along with his nurses and office staff, are committed to providing the type of sincere, personal care that they would expect for their own families.
Dennis Factor, MD, moved his private practice to UT Southwestern Medical Center from the Wadley Tower on Gaston Avenue when he joined the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology as an Associate Professor in 2005. After graduating from Marquette University School of Medicine, he completed a residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Baylor University Medical Center in 1965 and then served in the United States Air Force for two years.
Dr. Factor is a board certified obstetrician gynecologist who is past president of the Dallas County Medical Society, Texas Association of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, and Southwestern Gynecologic Assembly. He is active in the Dallas County Medical Society and Texas Medical Association where he has been an advocate for women’s and children’s health care, confidentiality, and patients’ rights.
With more than 40 years of experience in women’s health care, Dr. Factor personalizes care to meet the needs of his patients. Realizing the patient’s time is important, punctuality is strongly promoted in his practice. He has special interest in the gynecologic needs of the mature woman.
Mayra J. Thompson, MD, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at UT Southwestern Medical Center. She received her undergraduate degree from Northwestern University and her doctor of medicine from the University of Illinois Abraham Lincoln School of Medicine. She completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Illinois Research Hospital.
Dr. Thompson is trained in minimally invasive surgical procedures such as the DaVinci Robot for single-site hysterectomies and has also been certified by the International Society for Clinical Densitometry. She is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology and is a Fellow of the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists as well as a member of the Association of Advanced Laparoscopic Surgeons, American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists, American Society for Reproductive Medicine, and American Urogynecologic Society.
Dr. Thompson has lectured and proctored courses in the use of minimally invasive surgical techniques at UT Southwestern and elsewhere. She not only teaches the residency staff, but enjoys assisting physicians in private practice who wish to learn and master these techniques.
Dr. Thompson is fluent in Spanish and has a special interest in communicating wellness and preventative care in the Hispanic community. She has hosted multiple radio educational shows for the Latin American community not only in Dallas but in the Southwest. Among others, the most well known are “A Su Salud” and “La Buena Vida.” For her efforts she was awarded the Female Entrepreneur of the Year Award from the Dallas Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and the “Si Se Puede” award from the Mexican American Professional Women’s Association of Dallas.
Ellen Wilson, MD – is an Associate Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology – joined the faculty at UT Southwestern Medical Center in 2001 following eight years in private practice in North Dallas. A board certified reproductive endocrinologist, she received her medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine and then spent a year as a medical missionary in Zaire, Africa, before completing a residency in obstetrics and gynecology at George Washington University.

Dr. Wilson speaks both English and French. She is a specialist in menstrual disorders, menopausal hormone management, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), and the surgical correction of congenital anatomical anomalies of the female reproductive tract. She is trained in minimally invasive surgery including the DaVinci Robot for procedures such as hysterectomy, myomectomy, and tubal reversal.
Dr. Wilson also sees patients at the Fertility and Advanced Reproductive Medicine practice and the Pediatric-Adolescent Gynecology program at Children’s Medical Center where she is the program’s medical director.
Pediatric-Adolescent Gynecology at Children’s Medical Center
Our team of obstetrician-gynecologists has specialized experience and training in the medical and surgical management of gynecologic conditions unique to the pediatric and adolescent population. We care for patients from infancy, through puberty, and into young adulthood. Our goal is to provide the best care for our patients while preserving their future reproductive potential.
We also serve as consultants for other physicians at UT Southwestern Medical Center and in the community.

Akilah Weber, MD, Assistant Professor, joined the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology in 2010 after completing a two-year fellowship in pediatric and adolescent gynecology at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. She is the first physician in the Department to be primarily dedicated to the specialization of pediatric and adolescent gynecology.
Dr. Weber received her medical degree from the University of Rochester Medical and Dental School. After graduation, she completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at John H. Stroger Hospital of Cook County in Chicago where she served as administrative chief resident during her senior year.
Dr. Weber is a member of the North American Society for Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology and the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. Her interests include the surgical management of congenital reproductive anomalies, adrenogenital disorders as well as primary and secondary amenorrhea.
