New Year’s Ease for pregnant women

UT Southwestern Labor and Delivery Room

UT Southwestern University Hospital - St. Paul offers women a professional and comfortable environment for the delivery and care of their babies.  The hospital was the first in Dallas to provide family-oriented birthing suites with home-like settings.  Care is individualized and sensitive to the needs of families. Significant others are encouraged to stay with the mother at any time and children may visit their mother from 8 a.m. - 8:30 p.m.

The hospital’s 5-North wing is devoted to the care of pregnant women and their infants.  In addition to birthing suites, this wing has rooms to care for women who require hospitalization prior to delivery; rooms for mothers and their babies to be together after delivery; and an admission and well-baby nursery area. If a baby needs special treatment following birth, a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Nursery – staffed by doctors and nurse practitioners with specialized training in pediatric neonatology – is available on site.

Throughout their stay, women are cared for by experienced, registered nurses who have received specialized training in obstetrical care. A maternal-fetal medicine team is also available to assist physicians in caring for expectant mothers who are hospitalized with pregnancy complications like diabetes and high blood pressure.  Following delivery, mothers are encouraged to keep their babies with them, and staff are available to assist with baby feedings.  If a mother needs to rest, a 24-hour nursery is also available.

The Women’s Resource Center is conveniently located next to Labor and Delivery. This center is designed to assist and educate pregnant women and new mothers. Classes are offered on a variety of topics including breastfeeding, prepared childbirth and CPR.

The center conducts tours of the maternity facilities at University Hospital - St. Paul at 7 p.m. on the second Tuesday of the month and 1:30 p.m. on the fourth Sunday.

For more information about the services and classes offered by the Women’s Resource Center, please call 214-645-1545.
