New ultrasound-guided biopsy method allows improved diagnosis
of endometrial disease

Being told you have cancer is frightening. UT Southwestern Medical Center’s Gynecologic Cancer Program specialists are here to help.

As part of the Harold C. Simmons Comprehensive Cancer Center, the gynecologic oncologists from the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology provide comprehensive evaluation and treatment options to women with suspected and diagnosed malignancies of the reproductive system. Our physicians are here to provide help and hope to women with cervical, endometrial, ovarian and uterine cancer as well as gynecologic cancers that affect the cervix, vagina, vulva, and placenta.

Many women are referred to us by their gynecologist or primary-care doctor due to abnormal test results. But others self-refer in search of a second opinion or access to the latest clinical treatment options.

Working in collaboration with other health-care providers at the Cancer Center, our team of specialists strives to be on the forefront of patient care by providing state-of-the art diagnostic and therapeutic approaches tailored to each woman’s needs. We offer a broad range of conventional and minimally-invasive surgical options for pelvic, abdominal, and reconstructive surgeries as well as conventional chemotherapy, hormonal therapy, immunotherapy and radiation therapy.

UT Southwestern is a member institution of the National Institutes of Health’s Gynecologic Oncology Group (GOG), so our patients have access to the latest treatment protocols developed by the National Cancer Institute. Depending on the type of cancer, some women may qualify for industry-sponsored clinical trials for the latest cancer-treatment drugs. Whatever the case, our team will work to identify the best treatment options available.

For our team, care does not stop with treatment of the malignance. We are just as concerned about each patient’s nutrition, pain control, psychological and social adjustments and the impact of a woman’s cancer on her family.

Working with genetic counselors at the Cancer Center, gynecologic oncologists can assess whether gynecological cancer in a family is hereditary. With an emphasis on cancer prevention, the Heredity Gynecologic Cancer Program offers risk assessment, counseling, preventative surgery, and medical management to women with increased risk for gynecological cancer.

Our team of providers is committed to helping women get through this difficult stage in their lives.
