Diseases of the retina and vitreous affect millions of people and can endanger their eyesight. UT Southwestern Medical Center offers comprehensive evaluation of and treatment for vitreoretinal diseases in adults and children.
Ophthalmologists at UT Southwestern use the latest treatment techniques. For instance, to treat macular degeneration, a disease of the retina, they use photodynamic therapy, anti-VEGF therapy and sometimes a precision cutting device with an oscillating microscope (Accurus vitrector) for surgery. Our specialists may also perform special techniques using gas bubbles or silicone oil during a vitrectomy, surgery used to treat retina and vitreous disorders.
