Ophthalmologists in UT Southwestern Medical Center’s Vitreoretinal Diseases and Surgery Program offer patients individualized, leading-edge treatment for diseases that affect the vitreous and retina (located in the back portion of the eye). UT Southwestern’s program is especially renowned for surgically treating vitreoretinal patients with complicated conditions, including retinoblastoma, diabetic retinopathy and age related macular degeneration.
UT Southwestern specialists use the latest diagnostic technologies with on-site imaging, including:
- Digital fluorescein angiography
- High speed ICG
- Heidelberg retinal topography
- Optical coherence topography
Our ophthalmologists are highly skilled at medically and surgically treating conditions of the retina and vitreous, such as diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, uveitis, retinoblastoma and retina detachment. These treatments may include laser therapy, cryotherapy, retinal detachment repairing surgery and vitrectomy (removal of the vitreous).
Patients in UT Southwestern’s clinical trials program receive therapies years before they become available to the public. Patients should ask their doctor if they are candidates for some of these groundbreaking therapies.
