White spots in eyes mean it's time to seek physician viewpoint

Pediatric ophthalmologists at UT Southwestern Medical Center use the latest technologies to evaluate patients and medically and surgically treat childhood eye disease. Ophthalmic surgeons in pediatric ophthalmology perform hundreds of surgeries each year.

Our pediatric ophthalmologists recommend that children get frequent eye exams. The American Optometric Association suggests that children have their first regular eye exam at six months. Follow-up exams should be given at ages two to three, when a child's visual system undergoes its most rapid development, and when vision correction is most effective.

Some of the pediatric eye conditions treated at UT Southwestern include:

  • Amblyopia
  • Anisometropia
  • Congenital cataracts
  • Dissociated vertical devitation (DVD)
  • Double vision
  • Drooping lid
  • Esotropia crossed eyes
  • Exotropia out-turned eyes
  • Eye muscle surgery
  • Ocular infections
  • Ocular trauma
  • Retinopathy of prematurity
  • Strabismus
  • Superior oblique palsy
  • Vision errors: nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism
