Optometry :: Patient Education Materials

About Our Program | Contact Lenses and Glasses | Our Physicians | Patient Education Materials | Support Groups and Resources

UT Southwestern Medical Center physicians take complex medical information about eyeglasses and contact lenses and describe it to patients in easy-to-understand terms. In addition, we also offer patients access to educational materials that will help them to learn more about eyeglasses and contact lenses and why they are candidates for the treatment prescribed.

Patient education can make a significant difference in how patients approach optometry. In addition to access to UT Southwestern’s health-care professionals, patients may consult other educational materials to better understand what to expect before, during and after treatment.

When patients are prescribed new contact lenses, they receive trial lenses. Optometrists check the lens’ fit and train patients how to wear and care for their lenses. Shortly after this, patients receive permanent lenses, along with helpful product literature.

If an individual orders glasses from UT Southwestern’s Optical Shop, opticians give instruction about how to wear and what to expect from special eyeglass lenses such as bifocals and trifocals. Opticians aid patients with frame selection using facial and color analysis.
