It is important to schedule an annual eye exam to protect eye health and any time there is a noticeable loss of visual acuity. The Optometry Program at UT Southwestern Medical Center specializes in the latest contacts and glasses to improve vision. It has access to contact lens materials not available in optometry chain stores.

Contact Lenses

UT Southwestern’s optometrists evaluate a patient’s potential for successful contact lens wear. If the patient is a candidate, the optometrist creates a computerized topographic map of each eye to select and fit the lenses. When the trial lens fits correctly, the final design is ordered.

UT Southwestern optometrists can help patients with the following contact lens needs:

  • Soft and rigid contacts
  • Therapeutic lens correction
  • Gas permeable lenses
  • Silicone hydrogel lenses (permeable, extended wear)
  • Bifocal correction
  • Multi-focal correction
  • Lenses for correction of astigmatism
  • Disposable lenses
  • Tinted lenses that change or enhance natural eye color

Glasses

UT Southwestern’s opticians provide the best eyeglass lenses to correct many vision problems, as well as face-flattering frames. They can help patients with the following:

  • Difficult-to-fit glasses
  • Progressive lenses
  • Bifocals and trifocals
  • High-index and aspheric glasses – compact lenses for strong prescriptions
  • Anti-reflective coating
  • Polycarbonate, impact resistant glasses
  • Transition lenses
  • Computer glasses
  • UV coating for eye protection
  • Occupational lenses
  • Sunglasses and sport vision appliances
  • Low vision appliances
