Dotted Line

UT Southwestern Medical Center's Motility and Dysphagia Clinic offers an integrated, team approach to the diagnosis and treatment of complex swallowing problems crossing the boundaries of conventional medical subspecialties.

The clinic is comprised of specialists in gastroenterology, otolaryngology, surgery, speech-language pathology and radiology. In addition, our specialists consult with other UT Southwestern physicians regarding any complicating medical conditions.

Streamlined Service, Integrated Care
The patient's first visit will include a joint appointment with a gastroenterologist, an otolaryngologist and a speech-language pathologist. After consultation, the physicians will determine what diagnostic tests, if any, are needed. These tests are conducted the same day.

The clinic's coordinated approach allows patients to receive integrated care in a centralized location, reducing unnecessary repeat visits, scheduling and travel hassles.

Services
The Motility and Dysphagia Clinic offers many procedures and services, including:

  • Flexible laryngoscopy
  • Functional endoscopic evaluation of swallowing (FEES)
  • Modified barium swallow (videofluoroscopic swallow study)
  • EGD (Upper endoscopy)
  • 24-hour pH monitoring
  • Impedance testing
  • High-resolution esophageal manometry
