Esophageal/Swallowing Disorders :: Conditions and Illnesses

About Our Program | Conditions and Illnesses | Our Physicians | Patient Education Materials | Support Groups and Resources

Physicians at UT Southwestern Medical Center treat patients with esophageal and swallowing disorders. In addition, our specialists can reduce or eliminate the health complications, problematic symptoms or other conditions that accompany esophageal/swallowing disorders. If left untreated, for example, conditions such as acid reflux (or GERD) can result in bleeding or further damage such as ulcers in the esophagus.

Some of the esophageal/swallowing disorders treated at UT Southwestern include:

  • Achalasia
  • Acid reflux (gastroesophageal reflux disease or GERD)
  • Barrett’s esophagus
  • Difficulty swallowing
  • Eosinophilic esophagitis
  • Esophageal rings
  • Esophageal strictures
  • Esophageal tumors
  • Esophagitis
  • Gastoesophageal reflux disease
  • Zenker’s diverticulum
