New research reveals ultraviolet light therapy is as beneficial for darker skin as lighter skin

UT Southwestern Medical Center offers some of the most advanced phototherapies available for the treatment of many kinds of skin conditions. Our specialists are leading experts in the use of the many varieties of phototherapy, including ultraviolet B therapies and PUVA (psoralen UVA) therapy. We have the only UVA-1 phototherapy unit in the Southwest.

Phototherapy, also known as light therapy, is a treatment for many skin ailments. Exposing the infected area to UV light lessens the effects of the afflicting skin conditions.

We treat a wide variety of dermatological conditions with phototherapy, including
psoriasis, scleroderma, lymphoma, vitiligo (loss of skin color) and pre-cancerous skin conditions. Some chronic diseases can be greatly helped by phototherapy, though not completely cured.

UT Southwestern’s state-of-the-art resources provide patients with the most effective phototherapy treatments available, delivered with attentive and compassionate care.
