UT Southwestern Medical Center’s physicians are known for their expertise in using laser therapy to treat a wide range of skin conditions.
Laser therapy uses a narrow beam of high-intensity light, which when shined on the skin can have a variety of effects. Some lasers produce light that vaporizes the outer layer of the skin and can be used to “resurface” the skin, lessening the appearance of wrinkles, tattoos and acne scars. These high-intensity light beams also can be used to surgically remove warts and pigmented lesions. Other lasers produce light that passes through the outer layers of skin to deliver energy to the deeper blood vessels. The result is shrinkage of blood vessels, which improves the appearance of spider veins, rosacea and vascular birthmarks (hemangiomas).
New laser technologies are available each year, and knowing how to select the appropriate laser light and the most effective means of delivery to the skin lesion or skin condition requires the special expertise of a physician. We carefully evaluate a patient’s medical history and current condition to determine the most appropriate laser therapies available. Our laser therapy specialists work as a team with referring physicians who have diagnosed their patients and recommended laser therapies.
Our state-of-the-art resources and our dedication to attentive and compassionate health care assure that patients receive the most effective and caring laser therapy treatment available.
