Nutrition

UT Southwestern Medical Center provides nutrition advice and therapy for the treatment and prevention of conditions such as heart disease, diabetes, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), kidney disease, obesity, osteoporosis, and eating disorders such as anorexia and bulimia.

UT Southwestern’s physicians and dietitians collaborate to assist patients in implementing dietary changes. Our specialists carefully monitor patients to review progress and modify dietary recommendations as needed. Our program offers a comprehensive assessment of nutritional needs based on the patient’s diagnosis, laboratory test results, physical evaluation and dietary history. Prior to an initial consultation, patients may be asked to keep detailed food records. As part of the assessment, a UT Southwestern nutrition specialist uses a computerized nutrient analysis program to help determine dietary inadequacies or excesses.

Nutrition plays a vital role in the management and prevention of many illnesses. Together, our specialists and patients have achieved extraordinary results in using nutrition to help regain health and improve quality of life.
