UT Southwestern and Texas Health Resources agree to collaborate on health care initiatives
ARLINGTON and DALLAS, TEXAS, Sept. 14, 2011 – Texas Health Resources and UT Southwestern Medical Center have agreed to seek collaborative opportunities that will benefit patients by addressing the complexities of today’s health care environment and delivering more efficient, integrated and affordable quality care to North Texas communities.
“This new collaboration with Texas Health Resources reflects our desire to find additional ways to leverage our strengths in education, research and patient care to enhance overall health care for the communities we serve. At the same time, we remain strongly committed to our long-standing existing partnerships including those with Parkland Memorial Hospital and Children’s Medical Center. We look forward to combining efforts with leaders from Texas Health, who share our commitment to delivering greater levels of integrated, patient-centered care,” said Dr. Daniel K. Podolsky, president of UT Southwestern.
“Texas Health Resources and UT Southwestern have a relationship that goes back many years,” said Douglas D. Hawthorne, FACHE, CEO of Texas Health Resources. “We have collaborated on research programs, and many of the physicians who practice on the medical staffs of our hospitals trained at UT Southwestern. We believe this agreement will give us new opportunities for collaboration to improve health care services for the people of North Texas. We’re forming a joint executive committee that will identify opportunities that could include potential development of an accountable care organization and graduate medical education programs, among other possibilities. This broadens and deepens our opportunities to explore possibilities and come up with new ideas.”
Initial areas to be explored also include development of post-acute care offerings, and a joint database for research on health care delivery issues to improve outcomes and value. The agreement also includes the potential for the organizations to extend the collaboration to other North Texas health systems and organizations. The agreement does not involve a merger or investment of assets.
